Welcome Message by Kyi Hla Han, Asian Tour Chairman
With its history dating back to 1965, the Taiwan Open has long been regarded as one of Asia's premier Championships where its list of winners showcases a truly cosmopolitan line-up.
Great names like home heroes Hsieh Min-nan, Chen Tze-ming and Lu Liang-huan, Vijay Singh, John Jacobs, Charlie Wi and title holder Thaworn Wiratchant adorn the Taiwan Open trophy and I am confident a worthy champion will emerge once again this week.
On behalf of the Asian Tour, I would like to congratulate the Golf Association Republic of China (GAROC) for staging its flagship event and we are delighted to be working closely in promoting this wonderful game.
As a member of the International Federation of PGA Tours, the Asian Tour will maintain our ambition to extensively promote and develop professional golf in the region.
This season, we will celebrate another momentous milestone with a record US$24 million in total prize money on offer to the region's finest players. Ultimately, it is through sponsorship that our players have a platform to showcase their wonderful talent and I would like to extend our fullest appreciation to the many sponsors who are supporting this week's Taiwan Open.
To the Management and staff at Sunrise, thank you for your tremendous efforts and I am sure our players will relish playing on the Championship course.
I would also like to pay tribute to the many unsung heroes who work from behind the scenes to ensure that tournaments are run successfully. To the tournament officials, volunteers and helpers here this week, thank you for your great support.
